Baptism (Christening) at All Saints

If you live in the Parish of Wick you are entitled to have your child baptised in All Saints Church. If you are thinking of doing so, here is a bit of history to help you.

Baptism has been carried out since the Church was born - nearly 2000 years ago. As people found faith in Jesus they would be washed with water, as a sign that their old life was being washed clean, and they were starting afresh with Jesus.

The Church of England believes that, from the very earliest days, people also had their children baptised with them. Of course, this meant that the children were brought up in church-going, believing households. St Peter taught people to turn to Jesus in faith, as well as being baptised. Baptism, without faith, was of little value.

If you wish to have your child baptised, it would be good to examine your own faith. Do you really believe and trust in Jesus? Do you believe Jesus founded the Church and wants you to be part of it? Can you, and the Godparents, really bring the child up in the Christian faith? The Vicar will be pleased to help you think this through.
