Advent and Christmas
Comfort and Joy holds together the hope that Christmas will bring joy and celebration after a uniquely difficult year. We realise that – for those who have lost loved ones or livelihoods, or who are potentially still not able to be together with loved ones – we have a unique message that brings both true comfort and joy, as we can have hope in the Lord, even when times are hard. To put it in biblical terms, it is a desire to 'Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep' (Romans 12:15)
We will be encouraging everyone, inside and outside the Church, to look to Jesus as the source of real comfort and joy. We'll do this through online services and carols, as well as meeting in person from Sunday 6th December.
The main highlights will include:
Two online Carol Services on Sunday 13 December
- 4.30pm all-ages
- 7.30pm readings and Carols.
A Children's Online Holiday Club - 21-23 December. More details very soon!
Christmas Eve and Mornings Services with our friends at Lyminster Church
(Full details below)
Also, look out for something at the start of Advent which we'll bring to everyone in our Church directory. It will have some things we hope will be a real encouragement to us as the Church family, and also some items that can be given away to neighbours or in Christmas cards, to share that message of Comfort and Joy with others, especially those who don't yet know Jesus. I don't want to say too much now, as I hope it will be a lovely surprise!
We will have an online hub for all of this at www.allsaintswick.org.uk/ComfortandJoy (currently under construction) but will contain all sorts of videos, music, services, links and other resources to help remind us of the real meaning of Christmas and to be able to point friends, family, colleagues, neighbours - anyone - to where they can find out more.
We'd love for everyone to be involved in that, so if you can, could you video yourself answering two questions:
'What gives you comfort?' and 'Where do you find joy?'
They can be serious, fun, or a mix. They need to be short - less than 30 seconds please! - and we'll edit them together into little snippets that show a range of perspectives on those questions to get our visitors thinking. Filming a selfie video is probably easiest - then email/messenger/WhatsApp it to Tom if you're happy for it to be included.
